BIOGRAPHY

Vicki Bennett is an Adelaide-based songwriter whose songs have been compared to those of Leonard Cohen, Joan Armatrading, Kirsty McColl and Spike Milligan.

She is most renowned for the originality, “sparkling wit” and depth of her lyrics.
These are matched with melodies which reviewers have variously described as “soaringly beautiful”, “toe-tapping” and “impossibly catchy”!

Her songs have been winners and/or finalists in competitions run by Port Fairy Folk Festival, Australian Songwriters Association, SCALA and the South Australian tourist Commission.

She has written for her own bands The Outskirts and The Standard Deviations as well as for film projects, a cappella groups, choirs, educational programs, and health programs. She has performed at gigs as divergent as queer festivals and medical association conferences!

Her songs have also been performed and recorded by artists as diverse as Nana’s Lust, Mary-Lynn Griffith (Darwin), Andrea rieniets (Melbourne) and a Capella groups including Virgin on the Ridiculous and dressed for Doreen (Adelaide).

Her first CD-single “If I Had A Sledgehammer” was recorded when she lived in Kakadu National Park and sold out within 2 weeks. For details of her other recordings see discography.

Her songs have received airplay in The Netherlands, USA and throughout Australia. She has appeared live-to-air on Radio Adelaide, 2SER, 2GLF, ABC Radio Darwin and ABC Radio National.

Her current commissions include writing the theme song for Childwise/ECPAT, an international organisation who work to prevent Child Sexual Abuse.

Enquiries regarding songwriting and performance are welcome.
